EMDR Therapy for Veterans

Heal the memory without reliving the story. We provide specialized Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for veterans ready to neutralize the emotional charge of past trauma.

Why Veterans Choose EMDR

Traditional "talk therapy" often requires you to recount traumatic events repeatedly, which can feel like re-injury. EMDR for veterans is different. It is a structured, 8-phase psychotherapy that utilizes bilateral stimulation (like eye movements or tapping) to help your brain’s natural healing process "digest" traumatic memories. As an authorized provider for the VA Community Care Network (CCN), we bring this gold-standard care directly to your community.

No Detailed Retelling

Unlike other therapies, EMDR allows you to process the impact of a memory without having to describe the traumatic event in high detail out loud.

Rapid Results

Studies by the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) show significant symptom reduction in fewer sessions than traditional talk therapy.

A Performance Architect's View on AIP

As a Sports Science Specialist (Unifesp), I look at EMDR through the lens of the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model. Trauma is essentially a "stuck" neural circuit. By using bilateral stimulation, we re-engage the brain's ability to integrate that information, shifting it from a "live" threat to a neutral past event. It’s a physiological re-tuning of your mental performance.

Authorized Care & The MISSION Act

Veterans are often eligible for private EMDR therapy if their local VA has wait times over 20 days or if the travel is burdensome. Following 2026 VA/DoD Clinical Practice Guidelines, EMDR is strongly recommended for all trauma populations. We coordinate with your VA team to ensure your treatment is fully authorized and seamless.

EMDR Recovery FAQ

How many sessions will I need?
A typical course of EMDR consists of 6 to 12 sessions. Many veterans begin to notice a decrease in hyper-vigilance and "triggering" after the first 3 or 4 processing sessions.

Is EMDR effective for MST?
Yes. EMDR is highly effective for Military Sexual Trauma (MST), as it provides a safe, non-invasive way to process complex emotional layers without the pressure of verbal storytelling.

Does insurance cover EMDR?
Resilience Georgia is in-network with TRICARE and is a registered VA Community Care provider. Most veteran health plans cover EMDR as a primary treatment for PTSD.
