Rapid Response for Invisible Wounds

In 2026, veteran mental health crisis care has shifted toward immediate community accessibility. Whether you are facing thoughts of self-harm, a severe PTSD episode, or a breakdown in functioning, you do not have to wait for a VA appointment. Under the COMPACT Act, veterans in acute suicidal crisis can go to any urgent care or emergency room for no-cost stabilization, regardless of VA enrollment.

Acute Stabilization

Immediate clinical support to manage intense emotional flooding, suicidal ideation, and acute combat-trauma flashbacks.

Post-Crisis Continuity

Rapid transition from emergency services to intensive outpatient care to prevent relapse and build long-term resilience.

A Performance Architect's View: The "Safety Override"

As a Sports Science Specialist (Unifesp), I view a mental health crisis as a physiological "Safety Override." Your amygdala has taken full control, and your prefrontal cortex—the part of the brain that handles logic and planning—has been offline. Our crisis care isn't just about "talking"; it's about using somatic and neuro-cognitive tools to bring your system back from the red-line and restore executive function. This is biological emergency management.

Your Rights Under the COMPACT Act

Effective since 2023 and expanded in 2026, the COMPACT Act allows the VA to pay for, provide, or reimburse the cost of your emergency suicide care. This includes up to 30 days of inpatient care and 90 days of outpatient follow-up. Resilience Georgia works as a community partner to provide that critical 90-day follow-up, ensuring your recovery is sustained.

Crisis Care FAQ

What if I am not enrolled in VA healthcare?
Under the COMPACT Act, you are still eligible for emergency suicide care at any facility if you were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable and served more than 24 months (or were in a combat zone).
